Subnautica 2 System Requirements

The published PC requirements put Subnautica 2 above older budget builds: 12 GB RAM, DirectX 12, a 6 GB VRAM GPU at minimum, and 50 GB of free storage. Use the table for the hard gate, then use the notes below to decide whether your PC has enough headroom for Early Access updates and co-op.

Quick read: GTX 1660 / RX 5500 XT is the minimum line. RTX 3070 / RX 6700 XT with 16 GB RAM is the safer target if you want fewer graphics compromises.

CPU floor

Minimum starts at i5-8400 / Ryzen 5 2600. Older quad-core PCs are the first risk point.

GPU floor

GTX 1660 6GB / RX 5500 XT 6GB is the minimum target. Treat 4 GB VRAM cards as below spec.

Comfort target

RTX 3070 8GB / RX 6700 XT 8GB plus 16 GB RAM is the recommended baseline.

Install space

Keep more than 50 GB free so updates, shader cache, and save data are not fighting the last few gigabytes.

How to read the specs

Below minimum GPU

Expect launch or stability risk before tuning graphics. Lowering settings cannot replace missing DirectX 12 or VRAM headroom.

At minimum spec

Start at 1080p, use conservative presets, close overlays, and avoid hosting a heavy co-op session while testing stability.

Near recommended spec

Use this as the practical target for a smoother Early Access experience, especially if you want higher resolution or co-op.

Handheld / ROG Xbox Ally

Official listings include ROG Xbox Ally support, but handheld comfort still depends on resolution, frame cap, battery mode, and patch state.

Early Access headroom
Leave CPU, GPU, RAM, and storage margin for patches instead of building exactly to the floor.

Practical tuning
If your hardware is near minimum, test stability at 1080p before chasing higher presets.

System requirements FAQ

Can I run Subnautica 2 on 8 GB RAM?

The listed minimum is 12 GB RAM, so 8 GB is below the published PC requirement. Upgrade memory before treating performance problems as a game bug.

Is a GTX 1650 enough for Subnautica 2?

GTX 1650-class cards usually sit below the listed GTX 1660 6GB minimum, especially on VRAM. Expect compromised performance or launch risk.

Do I need an internet connection?

The PC requirements list broadband internet. Solo play may not need a live co-op session, but updates, storefront checks, multiplayer, and support workflows all assume internet access.

How much space should I leave free?

The listed storage requirement is 50 GB. Leave extra free space for patches and shader or platform cache files instead of installing onto a nearly full drive.
