Subnautica 2 Buddy System Hotfix 2: Scanner, Base Power & Tadpole Fixes
Buddy System Hotfix 2 arrived on October 6, 2026. The most useful fixes affect everyday dives: Scanner Stations finding resources, generators retaining the right power after you leave and return, Tadpoles docking and recovering from map boundaries, and proximity voice detection. It also changes Shiver Leviathan interactions with parked vehicles and fixes an Xbox audio memory leak.
Scanner Station and base power: retry the affected task
The patch fixes Scanner Stations finding resources inaccurately. If a gathering trip was being held up by unreliable results, update the game and try the scan again. The announcement gives no new scan radius, range upgrade or resource-spawn guarantee.
Thermal and Hydroelectric Generators could lose power or show an incorrect amount after their area was unloaded and loaded again. Hydroelectric Turbines could also produce the wrong amount after the same transition. Hotfix 2 addresses those states, so compare your power after leaving and returning before rebuilding an affected installation. The patch describes a persistence fix; it does not announce a new generator output or recipe.
Tadpole docking, boundary recovery and Shiver Leviathans
- Docking: some orientations failed because the Tadpole’s own geometry blocked the docking check. That specific obstruction is fixed.
- Boundary recovery: the Tadpole should no longer be incorrectly teleported when returning from out-of-bounds areas. The fix list also covers destroyed Tadpoles with attached chassis failing to return inside the boundary correctly.
- Leviathan interactions: the Tadpole grab attack has been improved, and Shiver Leviathans no longer interact with unpiloted vehicles. Keep that behavior specific to Shivers; the note does not make every parked vehicle safe from every creature.
- Scout Ray: a chassis visual-effects issue is fixed.
If a docking problem remains after updating, record the chassis and approach orientation. Those details help distinguish the geometry issue in this patch from a different collision or placement problem.
Co-op voice and player-state fixes
Voice Chat now handles local and remote players consistently when detecting speech. This is a follow-up to September’s push-to-talk input fix. The patch also fixes a state where a player could see the multiplayer host as dead after their own character died.
Before testing a group session, update everyone and compare the game build and branch. Unknown Worlds says worldwide rollout can take time. If one storefront has updated first, wait until the group can run compatible builds.
Overgrown Ruins, scanning and recovery signals
- Currents in Overgrown Ruins are fixed.
- Several black box signals regain their missing names, including Overgrown Ruins signals already unlocked in an existing save.
- The advanced battery’s scanning hitbox is no longer excessively small.
- Habitat display cases have corrected scan data; Bloom Biofilm scans lose a black-square artifact and incorrect temporary icon.
- The AEP Suit uses its correct icon instead of the EVA Suit icon.
- Moved Biobeds keep the correct model after reloading, rack-mounted tools no longer appear duplicated while moving the rack, and recipe boxes stop looping after interaction.
Graphics, Xbox stability and crash reporting
Selecting DLSS Dynamic Frame Generation now disables VSync as intended. On Xbox, the patch fixes an audio-command memory leak associated with the game being paused or constrained. Crash diagnostics and launch logging have also been updated and re-enabled after a reporting issue that could cause hangs was resolved.
Does this add the next story chapter?
No new story chapter, biome or vehicle chassis is announced in Hotfix 2. It is a maintenance update to Buddy System. The Early Access roadmap still separates smaller improvements from the larger planned world and story expansion.
