Subnautica 2 Early Access Hotfix 4 Fixes Angel Combs Progression Bug
Unknown Worlds published Early Access Hotfix 4 on July 14, 2026. It is the first hotfix after Update 1 Adaptive Measures and it addresses a real progression blocker: Angel Combs that would not open for some players. It also removes water currents that were appearing inside player bases, brings the FOV slider into view on Xbox, and fixes two low-volume crashes. None of the fixes change gameplay balance, but the Angel Combs and base-currents items directly affect pages players are already searching.
What Hotfix 4 fixes
Hotfix 4 is a focused stability and progression pass. The most important fix is the Angel Combs not opening issue, which was blocking progression for affected players. The patch also removes water currents that were appearing inside player bases — the official note names movement interference, players getting stuck, and the inability to build or expand bases as the symptoms. That is a real base-building answer, not just cleanup.
The remaining fixes are platform and crash stability: the FOV slider was not showing on Xbox (it shipped on PC in Update 1 Adaptive Measures), and two low-volume crashes were closed — a crash on Xbox when joining a session invite, and a crash related to creature spawn.
The mod-disable reminder matters again
Unknown Worlds repeats the standing mod warning in this hotfix: if you play with mods, temporarily disable, remove, or uninstall them before launching after the patch. Community mods are not updated for the latest hotfix on day one and may cause crashes or unexpected behavior on launch. Re-enable mods only once their creators have updated them. This is the same rule carried over from Hotfix 2 and Hotfix 3, and it stays the headline answer for "the game crashes after a patch" reports.
Where this fits in the patch line
Hotfix 4 follows Update 1 Adaptive Measures (July 8, 2026), which remains the biggest post-launch content drop so far. Hotfix 4 does not add new mechanics, biomes, or items — it tightens the Adaptive Measures build. Treat the patch baseline as Hotfix 4 going forward, and keep any confirmed Adaptive Measures gameplay values labeled as current-build / Early Access and patch-volatile.
The official note also says the hotfix may take time to roll out worldwide and will be available on Xbox once it has cleared certification. Use that wording verbatim-style for "is the patch on Xbox yet" queries rather than promising a same-day Xbox release.
What Sub2Wiki changed
We moved Hotfix 4 to the top of the updates tracker, added this news page, refreshed the known-issues desk for the Angel Combs, base-currents, and Xbox FOV slider fixes, and rolled the patch baseline label forward from Adaptive Measures-era wording to Hotfix 4. Exact encounter, base-building, and creature values still keep their current-build / may-change-between-patches labels because Hotfix 4 is a fix pass, not a values pass.
