Why VPN region-shifting is a bad idea
The cheapest regions look tempting. Three reasons most players should not chase them:
- Payment verification. Steam requires a payment method registered in the store region. A VPN alone does not pass; a foreign card or a region-locked gift card is needed, and Steam can refuse the charge.
- Account lockouts. Steam now reviews region changes if your purchase pattern, IP history, and payment region disagree. The penalty is anything from a refused transaction to a permanent account hold.
