No. Subnautica 2 has 4-player online co-op only. We checked the Steam page, the Xbox Wire announcement, and the Game Pass listing on May 11, 2026. Not one of them mentions split-screen, couch co-op, local co-op, or shared-screen play.

Is Subnautica 2 split screen?

Will Subnautica 2 have split screen at launch or later?
Not at Early Access launch on May 14, 2026, and Unknown Worlds has not put split-screen on the Early Access roadmap. Original Subnautica and Below Zero never added it either, so treat split-screen as unlikely rather than delayed.

So how does 4-player co-op actually work?
Everyone needs their own copy of the game and their own machine. You can play together if you are both on Steam, both on Xbox, or one on Steam and one on Xbox (cross-play is in). The host loads a save, the rest join through an invite. There is no second-controller-on-the-same-TV mode.
If you wanted split-screen for two kids on the same console, this game does not do that. Original Subnautica and Below Zero did not either, so this is consistent with how Unknown Worlds has shipped the series.
