Collector Leviathan
The apex predator of the Sparse Plains biome and the headline hostile creature confirmed for Subnautica 2's Early Access launch. Unlike most fauna, the Collector pursues players across biome boundaries and cannot be killed — only evaded.
Status as of May 14, 2026: Name, classification, biome, cross-biome pursuit behavior, and "unkillable" rule are officially confirmed. Exact threat radius, scan tier rewards, and audio cue distance will be documented after Early Access hands-on.

Evasion tactics
- Stop trying to fight it. The Collector cannot be killed. Damage builds aggro without ever lowering its HP. The only valid outcome is to break line of sight and exit pursuit.
- Vehicle of choice: Tadpole Submersible. A fully upgraded Tadpole is small, fast, and presents a worse acoustic signature than a player swimming with a flashlight. It is the safest evasion vehicle in the launch build.
- Co-op distraction is real. Cross-biome pursuit means one player can pull the Collector away from a base or scan target. Pair this with a Tadpole pickup at a pre-agreed beacon.
- Manage your footprint. Light, sound, and rapid maneuvers all add aggro weight in UE5 stimulus systems. Reduce all three before you commit to a deep dive in Sparse Plains.
- Currents are not your friend. Ocean currents can push you toward the Collector's patrol zone whether you wanted to go there or not. Always read current direction before dropping below 100 m in Sparse Plains.

- First reliable audio cue range so you can plan dives without visual contact.
- Exact aggro decay timer after breaking line of sight.
- Whether 4-player co-op aggro splits across divers or focuses one target.
- Whether the Collector ever appears in Graveyard, Thermal Spires, or Plateaus, or whether Sparse Plains is its bounded zone.
