Subnautica 2 Leviathans

Identify the Collector, Shiver and Deepwing Brooder, choose a reason to approach, and understand what the latest vehicle fix changes. Creature names, ecology and research rewards below contain spoilers.

New in Hotfix 2: Shiver Leviathans no longer interact with unpiloted vehicles. The October 6 patch also improves Leviathan grabs on the Tadpole and fixes docking and boundary-recovery issues. Read the patch’s player-facing changes.

Recognize the animal before choosing a response

A Leviathan label does not mean every animal follows the same behavior. The Collector is associated with sonar research; the Shiver is a coordinated open-water predator; the Brooder’s eggs support the surrounding food web. Match your plan to the animal you have identified.

Which encounter is worth the trip?

Your goalStart withWhat to understand first
Unlock resource sonarCollector LeviathanComplete Bioscanner research for Sonic Echo, then review the ability at a Biolab.
Understand an open-water attackShiver LeviathanWatch for smaller male companions. The parked-vehicle fix does not protect a nearby diver.
Identify eggs and feeding activityDeepwing BrooderDistinguish egg clusters from decoys and carry provisions instead of depending on a pickup.

If you mainly want to find materials, a Scanner Station offers a base-centered alternative to pursuing Collector research. Sonic Echo is a mobile ability; the station has its own blueprint, filters and power requirements. Choose the tool that matches your progress.

Before approaching a Leviathan

  1. Choose one objective. A databank scan, Bioscanner research and egg search are different tasks. Check the tool or interaction you need before leaving base.
  2. Keep a return line. Use a known beacon or terrain reference and reserve air for the swim back. A vehicle’s oxygen support only helps once you reach it.
  3. Prepare the vehicle. Check power, condition, depth limit and chassis clearance. The Tadpole guide separates docking faults from creature encounters.
  4. Use deterrence to leave. Buddy System improves resonator escape tools; it does not guarantee a stun against every species in every state.
  5. Make recovery a separate trip. Regroup and restock before following a black box into the same danger. Use the recovery guide to plan the return.

Avoid using an old video’s stuck creature or vehicle collision as a permanent safety tactic. Hotfix 1 changed Collector canyon pathing, and Hotfix 2 changed Tadpole grab, docking and boundary behavior. Those fixes can invalidate an encounter that appeared safe in an older recording.

Common Leviathan questions

Which Leviathan gives you Sonic Echo?

Collector Leviathan is the Bioscanner research target for Sonic Echo, an active Biomod that highlights nearby resources. A normal Scanner entry and Bioscanner research are separate objectives.

Is a parked Tadpole safe around Leviathans?

The October 6 Buddy System Hotfix 2 says Shiver Leviathans no longer interact with unpiloted vehicles. It does not make that promise for other species, occupied vehicles or nearby divers.

Are Shiver and Void Leviathan different creatures?

Shiver Leviathan is the in-game databank and current official patch name for the creature covered by the Void Leviathan page. The smaller companions have a Shiver Male entry.

Do Deepwing Brooder bubbles always contain eggs?

No. The game distinguishes nutritious egg clusters from decoy bubbles. Check the object and its interaction instead of counting every bubble as food.

Identification and ecology use the PC build 128456 databank; current vehicle changes follow the official October 6 Hotfix 2. The creature pages explain research rewards and version scope.
