Portable Oxygen Generator: Crafting and Dive Planning

Updated

The Portable Oxygen Generator produces oxygen over time and needs a battery to operate. Unlock it with two scans, then build it with 3 Titanium and 2 Lithium. Use it as a planned refill stop on a route you can retrace.

Unlock and prepare the generator

  1. Complete two Portable Oxygen Generator scans. Check the scan progress and blueprint entry before collecting materials specifically for this build. Having the ingredients does not replace the unlock.
  2. Collect 3 Titanium and 2 Lithium. The Lithium guide covers the Great Jaw area and the later hot caves below the Tadpole Pens.
  3. Build it through the Habitat Builder. Have the material budget ready, then choose a spot you can find again without a long search.
  4. Bring a charged battery separately. The battery is an operating requirement, even though it is not listed among the Titanium and Lithium construction materials.
  5. Test the stop before extending your dive. Confirm that the generator has power and that your oxygen is actually recovering. Only then make it part of the next leg.

Choose between a tank, a generator and a base

OptionBest useWhat to plan around
High Capacity Air TankLonger dives while moving freelyNeeds a Standard Air Tank and one Plasteel Ingot; refill before departure.
Portable Oxygen GeneratorA repeatable stop near a collection or exploration routeNeeds 2 Lithium, 3 Titanium and a charged operating battery; allow time for oxygen production.
Powered baseA regular return point with storage and craftingA larger construction and power commitment, but supports more than one dive task.

If you only have one Lithium, the Processor can turn it and 2 Titanium into the Plasteel needed for the tank upgrade. If you have three Lithium, you can budget one for that ingot and two for the generator. The choice depends on whether you need more air while moving or a specific place to stop and recover.

Place it as part of a return route

A useful stop sits between your reliable starting point and the work area, at a location you can recognize on the return journey. Inspect the route first, deploy the generator while you still have a comfortable reserve, and verify it before going farther. Avoid making an unfamiliar cave branch your only refill plan.

Because oxygen production takes time, return while you still have air to wait. A battery-dependent stop can run out of power; keep enough margin to fall back to the previous safe point. Neither the generator nor a larger tank replaces Heat Tolerance in volcanic water.

If the oxygen stop is not working

For a permanent expedition base, compare the generator with the base power options. For repeated portable use, include its battery in your charging routine alongside your movement and mining tools.
