Necrolei Cyst
Look for blue-green cysts at the top of Stilt Orbs near Old Habitat. Bring your Survival Multitool to cut them free, then divide the haul between Strong Acid and planting supplies before returning to craft.

Find Stilt Orbs near Old Habitat
The PC Gamer gathering route places Old Habitat roughly 350 metres north of the Lifepod. Treat that as an approach landmark: the harvest is on nearby plants, rather than inside a storage container in the habitat.
- Pack the Survival Multitool and leave inventory space. Keep your oxygen return margin while heading north from the Lifepod.
- Look for the blue-tinted area and large tentacled Jelly Lei structures around Old Habitat.
- On that northward approach, look left near the plants with pink tendrils. Find the raised orb-shaped plants standing on pink tentacles: these are Stilt Orbs.
- Aim at the turquoise cyst at the top of the orb and cut it with the Survival Multitool. Collect the released material and check that it entered your inventory.
- Continue only as far as your return supplies allow. Reserve the first extra cyst for planting if you want a supply near home.
A powered Scanner Station also has a Necrolei Cyst filter. Select it, mark an available contact, and compare its depth with your route. A contact can require a different approach from the straight line shown by its signal.
How many Necrolei Cysts should you bring back?
The Fabricator conversion consumes 2 Necrolei Cysts per Strong Acid. Establishing one Necrolei planting uses another cyst. These are separate costs; the sample planted at home is no longer available for the same acid craft.

One Power Cell consumes one Strong Acid, two Basic Batteries and one Salt. The two-cyst acid portion is only part of that budget. Keep the batteries and Salt separate from the planting reserve.
The alternate Strong Acid conversion uses 1 Sulfur and 1 Gold at the Processor. Use that route if you already have the minerals and want to keep your cysts for planting. The cyst conversion itself is available at the Fabricator; it does not require building a Processor.
Establish a planting and harvest the fruit
Complete the Growbed scan unlock, then select the Necrolei Cyst planting entry with the Habitat Builder and supply one cyst. Leave space above and around it so you can reach its fruit. The Growbed guide covers the other planting options.
The newly planted growth starts unripe and shows ripening progress. When the fruit is ready, target the fruit with the Survival Multitool and collect the resulting cyst. Do not dismantle the whole planting to collect its harvest. Keep enough finished acid and expedition supplies in storage to cover the wait.
Necrolei planting was added in the official Buddy System update. That update also fixed several Growbed selection and movement problems.
If you cannot harvest or craft
- No useful hit on the plant: aim at the turquoise fruit on top, not the Stilt Orb's supporting stalk or a nearby Jelly Lei.
- The home planting is not ready: check its ripening progress and return when fruit is available. Planting is not an immediate second copy of the consumed cyst.
- No room for the pickup: unload unrelated materials before harvesting. Check the released item and your inventory before swimming away.
- The acid materials look wrong: use the Fabricator for the two-cyst recipe. The Processor's Sulfur-and-Gold conversion is a different recipe for the same output.
- The planting option is locked: complete the Growbed scan requirement. Holding a cyst by itself does not replace that unlock.
