Deepwing Brooder Leviathan
One of the few named Subnautica 2 leviathans that has been confirmed by Unknown Worlds before launch. This page is a placeholder until we can document the in-game version.
Status as of May 14, 2026: Officially named by Unknown Worlds in a community fan art contest run as part of the Early Access launch events. UW invited the community to illustrate the Deepwing Brooder Leviathan, which confirms the name is canon. Gameplay-level details such as biome, behavior, and threat radius will be added once we observe it in the launch build.
What we know so far
- Name source: Unknown Worlds officially used the name in a pre-launch fan art contest announcement. This is the rare case where a leviathan name is confirmed before any gameplay footage shows it scanning.
- Class: Leviathan-class. UW used the explicit "Leviathan" suffix, which the series reserves for apex predators.
- Naming convention: "Brooder" implies parental or nesting behavior. "Deepwing" implies a winged or fin-spanning morphology. Both hints together suggest a large creature tied to a nest or breeding area, but neither is confirmed mechanically.
- Confirmed by Unknown Worlds: Yes, by name. Gameplay-level details (biome, depth, threat radius, drops, audio cue) are not yet documented in any official source we have on file.
What this page will cover after launch
- First confirmed biome and depth band where the Deepwing Brooder Leviathan appears in-game.
- Audio cue and approach distance, since series leviathans always announce themselves first.
- Whether the "Brooder" naming reflects a real mechanic, such as a nest area or eggs.
- Threat radius, vehicle interactions, and whether 4-player co-op aggro splits across divers.
- Screenshots from a real scan, replacing this placeholder concept art.
