Subnautica 2 Launch Update Adds World Sharing for Co-op Saves

The Subnautica 2 launch build supports world sharing for co-op saves. Public launch-week sources confirm shared worlds and save handoff patterns, but we have not verified live host migration or automatic host transfer.

What shipped at launch

Subnautica 2's co-op save model supports world sharing: a multiplayer world can be shared with other players so the group is not limited to one person owning all future access. That is the verified player-facing point.

What we have not verified from public launch sources is a true live host migration flow where the host role transfers during an active session without restarting. Until an official patch note or in-game check confirms that exact behavior, this page should be read as a world-sharing note, not a promise of seamless live host transfer.

How shared-world handoff works in practice

  1. Start the world as a normal co-op session. One player hosts, others join through the invite flow.
2. Share access deliberately. Use the game's world sharing / save sharing options when the group wants another player to keep access.
  3. Relaunch from the shared save when needed. If the original host is not available, the shared-world holder can continue from that world instead of starting over.
  4. Verify after patches. If Unknown Worlds adds or documents live transfer later, update this page with the exact menu flow.

Avoid describing this as automatic host migration unless you have verified the current patch in-game. "World sharing" is the safer, supported wording.

What this changes for co-op crews

The practical impact is bigger than it sounds. Three concrete shifts:

  • Less "host has the save" friction. Shared-world access gives groups a path around one player being unavailable.
  • Cross-time-zone crews are easier. EU/US/Asia mixed groups can plan shared access instead of waiting for one host every session.
  • Still not a magic disconnect fix. If the host drops unexpectedly, confirm the current build's behavior before assuming the session continues live.

Known limitations

A few caveats for the current wording:

  • World sharing is confirmed by public player guides; live host transfer is not confirmed here.
  • Exact menu labels can change during Early Access, so this page should be checked after SaveSync patches.
  • The wall demolition bug is a separate co-op base issue and should not be explained as a host-transfer problem.
