Subnautica 2 Day-One Hotfix: Multiplayer Wall Demolition Bug Improved

Unknown Worlds shipped a Subnautica 2 day-one hotfix targeting a co-op bug where non-host players could not demolish walls in shared bases. The fix significantly reduces the failure rate, and a complete fix is scheduled for the next patch.

What the bug looked like

On launch day, co-op crews reported that only the host could demolish walls inside a shared base. Non-host players (clients) would aim the Habitat Builder at a wall, trigger the demolish prompt, watch the animation play, and then see the wall stay in place. The wall would sometimes disappear on a later reload, sometimes not at all. The same flow worked correctly in single-player.

The issue showed up most often in mid-session base reshuffles — when a crew decided to redesign their starting habitat after two or three hours of play. Players logged it on Steam, Discord, and the Unknown Worlds bug tracker within the first six hours of Early Access.

What the hotfix changed

The day-one hotfix significantly reduced the failure rate for client-side wall demolition. Per SteamDB patch notes, the update also included unspecified "new items added," though the wall demolition fix was the headline change for co-op crews.

Unknown Worlds noted in the patch notes that the issue should be completely resolved in the next version, not this hotfix. Practically: if you and your crew are still seeing the bug today, file a fresh report — the dev team is collecting repro data for the full fix.

How to work around it until the full fix lands

  1. Let the host demolish. The cleanest workaround is to give the host the Habitat Builder when a wall needs to come down. Host-side demolitions are unaffected.
  2. Use shared-world access where available. If your usual host is offline, check the SaveSync world sharing note before assuming a client can take over the same live session.
  3. Save before redesigning. If the bug hits and a wall fails to demolish, reload the save before continuing. The wall state usually resyncs on reload.
  4. Avoid rapid demolish/place loops. Players reported the bug fires more often when clients chain multiple demolish actions back-to-back. Slow down or hand off to the host.

Is anything else affected?

Wall demolition is the only confirmed client-side base-edit failure so far. Door placement, corridor placement, and storage module placement all work correctly for non-host players in current builds. If you see related desync issues, log them in Known Issues with seed, version, and a clear repro path.

We will update this report when Unknown Worlds ships the full fix or confirms additional patch contents.
